Steve Foster, President of Business Controls, was one of 165 delegates on the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Exchange trip to Boston last week. One of the key messages imparted upon the Colorado business, government and non-profit leaders by Massachusetts Institute of Technology startup specialists is that to eventually grow jobs in our state, Colorado must create "...an ecosystem that accepts risk-taking, nurtures entrepreneurs and attracts resources..." (from Denver Post article Support Lures startups, 9/18/2011). This is critical for innovation and "Innovation-based enterprises are the companies that can eventually grow jobs exponentially."
The article, which can be accessed via this link, also mentions BCI-client TechStars as one of the strongest entrepreneurial-education programs in the U.S. TechStars, a startup accelerator, offers entrepreneurs mentoring; seed funding from venture capitalists and angel investors; and computer, legal and banking perks.
A recent Census Bureau study found that companies 5 years old or younger created more jobs between 1980 and 2005 than all other companies.
